Someone intentionally set a fire at Denham Springs High School late last month, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage, and officials are trying to find who did it.

The State Fire Marshal's Office reported that, at 2 a.m. on May 26, the local fire department responded to a fire alarm at the high school. The flames were contained to the English Hall on the west side of campus.

Deputies determined the fire was intentionally set and are searching for a suspect, officials said. They believe the suspect entered campus on a bicycle and left in the direction of Robbie Street shortly before the fire department was called.

Denham Springs High School has been the target of other intentional fires in the past. In 1997, a student at the school was arrested for setting two fires on the campus, one of which destroyed the campus administrative building. Both arson incidents combined cost more than $1.2 million in damage.

Both the fire marshal's office and the Denham Springs Police Department are conducting the investigation. They ask anyone with information to contact the SFM Hotline at 1-844-954-1221 or the SFM’s online tip form found at . Information can also be called in directly to DSPD at 225-326-2704.
